We're Storm Ready

Cardinal Community, we hope we don't experience any weather threats this hurricane season, June 1 to November 30.  But if we do, we have an experienced and knowledgable team ensuring we appropriately respond to any weather threats we face.  Emergency Management constantly monitors numerous sources for the latest in tropical storm activity that could affect the Lamar Community.

We developed this site to provide resources and tips to be better prepared this hurricane season.

Tips for Students

  • Designate a non-local relative or friend to serve as a family contact.  Be prepared to communicate your pre-storm plan and to confirm that you are okay after the storm.

  • Build or purchase an emergency kit with supplies to last 3-5 days.  Ensure this includes cash and prescription medication. 

  • Keep your car filled with gas and check all fluids and tire pressures (including the spare).  Know how you will evacuate and the route options available if an evacuation order is issued.

  • Back up your computer data and consider using a cloud based storage solution, such as university-approved Microsoft Office 365.

  • Purchase rental insurance for and take pictures/inventory of your personal possessions.

  • Student living on campus should see the Residence Life Hurricane Preparedness guide.

Tips for Faculty/Staff

  • Stay up to date through the Lamar Alerts page, LU social media and .
  • Determine safe evacuation routes inland as well as alternative routes.

  • Review Shelter in Place plan, making sure Disaster Kit is fully stocked and fresh batteries & supplies are included.

  • Develop a communication plan with family, friends, and co-workers.

  • Advise Department Head of evacuation destination.

  • Have cash on hand for post-windstorm needs, such as buying food and supplies.

  • Make sure work station has necessary supplies in case called back to work before campus reopens.

Tips for Deans/Department Heads

  • Departments and Colleges should complete the Continuity of Operations form yearly.

  • Confirm updated contact and evacuation information for all employees. 

  • Review the Hurricane Plan and initiate any actions needed in this phase and ensure revisions are current for new activities involving materials that will be damaged or lost in the event of prolonged power or other utility outage.

  • Backup all computer files on a network drive or approved cloud-based storage program.

  • Ensure needed emergency/disaster supplies are available.

  • Verify all emergency or back-up equipment is operational and create/update list of emergency items.

  • Review specific roles and responsibilities with employees.

Update your Contact Information

四虎影视 uses your contact information from your Self-Service Banner account to keep you informed with important updates. Follow these steps to update your personal information and to make sure you receive these messages.

  1. Navigate directly to the  Personal Information section at 
  2. Log in with your LEA username and password (same login for LU Email).
  3. Review your contact details for accuracy.
  4. To receive text alerts, be sure your cell phone number is listed and labeled as “Cell Phone.” If your cell phone is listed but labeled as anything other than “Cell Phone,” you will not receive text message alerts.
  5. Be sure to update your Emergency Contact information as well. The Emergency Contact is someone the university would contact on your behalf in the event you experience an emergency while on campus. This contact does not receive storm updates/alerts.
  6. Cell Phone numbers are not included in your faculty/staff campus directory profile. You can adjust the information that is displayed in the directory by clicking on “Directory Profile” at the bottom of the page.
