Cardinal Lights


Due to weather forecast, please take note of new date for Cardinal Lights:

Date: Wednesday, Dec. 6, 6 - 8 p.m.
Location: Wayne A. Reaud Building Courtyard

四虎影视 will light up the holiday season with the third annual Cardinal Lights on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 6 to 8 p.m. in the courtyard of the Wayne A. Reaud Building. Cardinal Lights will feature a holiday light display for LU faculty, staff, students and community members to enjoy, as well as children's activities, hot cocoa, holiday cookies, photos with Santa, and other festive fun. A fireworks display will take place at 6:30 p.m.

Diwali
Diwali: Festival of Lights

Date: Tuesday, Nov. 28, 5 - 9 p.m.
Location: McDonald Gym

Come learn about and celebrate the Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with the Indian Student Association, Friends of India, The International Student Council, and The Asian Business Student Association.

Late Night Breakfast
Chartwells to Host Late Night Breakfast Event

Date: Tuesday, Nov. 28, 9:00 - 11:30 p.m.
Location: Brook-Shivers Dining Hall

The end of the semester is just around the corner, so for some late night eats and treats. Hypnotist and comedian, Dr. Jon Taylor, will be entertaining the crowd starting at 10 p.m. Come early to get good seats and see your peers get hypnotized. Please note that the LU Dining Hall will close at 8 p.m. to set up for the breakfast event.

Giving Tuesday
KVLU Takes Part in Giving Tuesday

Date: Tuesday, Nov. 28, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Location: Virtual

On this Giving Tuesday, Nov. 28, consider a donation to your local public radio station, KVLU. Your membership or extra gift will ensure that KVLU can continue to bring you the gift of public radio to Southeast Texas. at kvlu.org or call (409) 880-8164 to sign up for payroll deduction.

Holiday Wassail Celebration

Date: Thursday, Nov. 30, 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Location: Mary & John Gray Library (Lobby)

All LU faculty, staff and students are invited to join the Mary & John Gray Library for delicious treats and warm wassail, a traditional spiced apple beverage.

Volunteers Needed

Burnout in the Workplace

One in four people admit to being burned out and detached from their work. Causes are often related to feeling overwhelmed, trying to balance work and family priorities, or just doing more with less. To prevent getting burned out, practice these four skills: change problems to challenges, schedule time for stress management, separate self-worth from your work, and find one thing to be grateful for each day. Composition Awards
LU Writing Center Hosts First Ever WAC Composition Awards

Deadline: Monday, Nov. 27, 11:59 p.m.

Faculty members who teach first-year writing classes are encouraged to nominate one deserving student by Nov. 27 for a first-of-its-kind Compy Award. Winners in six interdisciplinary categories will receive $50 and the honor of being a recognized writer on campus. See site for details on how to enter.

Food Drive
27th Annual Cardinal Food Drive

Deadline: Thursday, Nov. 30, 5:00 p.m.
Location: Setzer Student Center, Room 208

Donate to our Cardinal Pantry and the Southeast Texas Food Bank this holiday season. Bring non-perishable food items to Room 208 in the Setzer Student Center. Make sure to tell us your organization or department name, and the team with the most donated items will be recognized.

Center for Resiliency Launches New SmartStorm Initiative

The LU Center for Resiliency has launched a new distance learning portal, , that will provide useful and critical information for preparing for and coping with the effects of hurricanes, floods and damaging weather. Three courses will be available with certificates and a disaster preparedness backpack, while supplies last.

Advance Your Career with a Master's in English

Deadline: Friday, Dec. 1, 12:00 a.m.

Advance your career and enhance your professional communication, information analysis, and research skills while indulging your love of literature, writing, and great conversation with a Master's in English.

Proposed Policy Open for Lamar Community Comment

Deadline: Wednesday, Dec. 6, 5:00 p.m.

Pulse Magazine
Submit to Pulse, LU's Student Literary Magazine

Deadline: Friday, Dec. 15, 12:00 a.m.

Submissions will be open from October 15 to December 15 for Pulse magazine. Submission categories include: poetry, short fiction, scholarly essays, creative nonfiction, poetry in translation, and art. Submissions are open to all students, regardless of major. $100 prizes will be given for each category. A publication release party and reading event will be held in May of 2024.

2024 David J. Beck Fellowship Application Deadline Extended

Date: Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024, 5:00 p.m.

The 2024 David J. Beck Fellowship application will remain open until Jan. 16, 2024. Faculty and staff are encouraged to motivate students you know to apply for this prestigious fellowship. Please visit the website for the application requirements and award information.
