World Mental Health Day
World Mental Health Day Event

Date: Tuesday, Oct. 10, 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.
Location: Setzer Student Center, Live Oak Ballroom B

The LU Office of Strategic Initiatives will host a World Mental Health Day on Tuesday, Oct. 10, with the purpose to improve knowledge, raise awareness and drive actions that promote and protect everyone’s mental health. The 2023 theme is “Our Minds, Our Rights." There will be information, resources, food, and chair massages for attendees.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Liaison Program Information Session

Conduct research and travel during the Summer of 2024. Join the Office of Undergraduate Research for an information session on 四虎影视's new REU liaison program. This competitive program, funded by the National Science Foundation, welcomes undergraduates from all academic areas.

National Ombuds Day

Date: Thursday, Oct. 12, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Location: CICE Building, Room 130

The 四虎影视 Ombuds Office is hosting a "Meet & Eat" (doughnuts) event to provide information about its services on National Ombuds Day this Thursday, October 12. Ombuds offer a confidential safe place to discuss conflicts or challenges with people in the workplace. We are informal, impartial, and outside the chain of command. As such, the Ombuds Office provides a reasonable first-step in resolving problems before they become too serious. Reaud Honors College to Host Honors Scholars Day

Swamp Pop: Lecture and Live Performance

Date: Friday, Oct. 20, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Location: McFaddin-Ward House Museum (1906 Calder Avenue, Beaumont)

Center Fellow and LU Music graduate student Rachel Stiles will talk about the history of Swamp Pop -- a music genre unique to Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana -- followed by a live performance by Jivin' Gene Bourgeois and Eazy. Admission is free.

Cardinal Connect Laptop Loaner Program Available to Students
Cardinal Connect Laptop Loaner Program

Location: Mary and John Gray Library, 1st Floor

四虎影视 provides loaner laptops to LU students as a courtesy and at no charge. Laptops are available for both short-term checkouts (up to three days) and long-term checkouts (up to eight weeks). You must be a current student at LU to be eligible for this program.

For more information, visit the Information Technology (I.T.) Service Desk on the 1st floor of the Mary and John Gray Library. You will need to present your LU Student Cardinal One card. No other forms of identification will be accepted. Laptops are available on a “first come, first served” basis.

Blackboard Courses From 2019 or Earlier Will Be Removed Beginning Oct. 12

Beginning October 12, access to Blackboard courses created in 2019 or earlier will no longer be available. This means that any courses, materials and content associated with these older courses will be archived and no longer accessible through the Blackboard platform. 

For faculty, this change means that you must ensure that any course materials and resources you plan to use in the future are located in your current Blackboard courses or saved to a local drive. NOTE: This process will not impact course templates -- only previously completed course sections with actual student enrollments.

McNairs Scholars
Applications Open for McNair Scholars Program

The LU McNair Scholars program is now accepting applications for the 2024 Cohort. The program offers students opportunities to work with a faculty mentor, conduct research, publish or present their findings, and gain assistance in applying to graduate school. See our website for more information.

LU College of Graduate Studies Calls for Entries for 2nd Annual Graduate Research Conference

Deadline: Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 11:59 p.m.

Entries accepted through Submit your abstract for research papers and posters as noted in the Current Events on the College of Graduate Studies webpage. Acceptance is competitive, with several regional universities also attending. The conference will be held here at 四虎影视 on March 28 and 29, 2024.

Applications for Faculty Development Leaves for the Fall 2024 through Summer 2025 cycle are being accepted until 5 p.m. on Monday, November 6, 2023 through Competition Space.

2024 David J. Beck Fellowship Application Deadline Extended

Deadline: Monday, Nov. 13, 5:00 p.m.

The application deadline for the 2024 David J. Beck Fellowship has been extended. Students who are interested in summer research are encouraged to apply for this prestigious award and scholarship.

Center for Resiliency Launches New SmartStorm Initiative

The LU Center for Resiliency has launched a new distance learning portal, , that will provide useful and critical information for preparing for and coping with the effects of hurricanes, floods and damaging weather. Three courses will be available with certificates and a disaster preparedness backpack, while supplies last.

Have something to share?  (e.g., events, publications, faculty research, awards, departmental congratulations, grants, etc.) and the Office of Marketing Communications will get the word out through emails, web, social media and more. 

All approved announcements must be received by Thursday at 3 p.m. to be included in the following week's campus update.
