Blood Drive
Save a Life - Give Blood

Date(s): Tuesday, Oct. 24 & Wednesday, Oct. 25, 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Location: Setzer Student Center, Cypress Room 125 & 127


The Student Health Center will host a blood drive sponsored by LifeShare Blood Center on Tuesday, October 24 and Wednesday, October 25, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Anyone in good health who is at least 16 years of age and weighing at least 110 pounds, can donate blood. Phi Beta Delta to Host Lunch & Learn

Date: Tuesday, Oct. 24, 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
Location: Mary & John Gray Library, Room 702

Phi Beta Delta invites everyone to the Fall 2023 Lunch and Learn event. Dr. Worley will present her mentored research project, "100 Years of Cardinal Pride: An Oral History Project." Guests are welcome to bring their own food and beverages to this "brown bag" style event.

四虎影视 Brass Festival 2023 to Feature U.S. Air Force Freedom Brass

The 7th annual Lamar Brass Festival will take place Tuesday, October 24 through Thursday, October 26 at St. Anthony Cathedral Basilica. Each concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will honor our country and all those who serve and have served in the Armed Forces. The first concert will feature the United States Air Force Freedom Brass. Department of Theatre & Dance Presents: The Incredible Fox Sisters

REDtalks: Your Passport to Global Citizenship

Texas Academy to Host Fishing Tournament Fundraiser

LU College of Arts & Sciences to Host Panel on Research, Publication, and Grant Writing

The LU College of Arts & Sciences (COAS) Research and Creative Activity Committee, one of the college's strategic plan initiatives, will host the "Panel on Research, Publication, and Grant Writing." Please join to hear from several COAS faculty about their experience in these topics.

Stuttering Association
National Stuttering Association Beaumont/Lamar Chapter Meeting

Date: Thursday, Nov. 2, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

If you stutter, you're not alone. It’s estimated that 1% of adults stutter, which equals 160 Lamar faculty, students and staff sharing the common experience of stuttering. Come join us either in person or via Zoom. The National Stuttering Association plays a vital role in letting people who stutter know that they are not alone.

100 years of magic
Lamar Centennial: 100 Years of Magical Memories

The LU Archives and Special Collections with the Center for History and Culture will open an exhibit of LU memorabilia (first floor of the Gray Library at 4:00 p.m.) followed by Judith Linsley's talk on LU's history and a panel of alumni sharing their memories (eighth floor at 4:15 p.m.).

Cardinal Connect Laptop Loaner Program Available to Students
Cardinal Connect Laptop Loaner Program

Location: Mary and John Gray Library, 1st Floor

四虎影视 provides loaner laptops to LU students as a courtesy and at no charge. Laptops are available for both short-term checkouts (up to three days) and long-term checkouts (up to eight weeks). You must be a current student at LU to be eligible for this program.

For more information, visit the Information Technology (I.T.) Service Desk on the 1st floor of the Mary and John Gray Library. You will need to present your LU Student Cardinal One card. No other forms of identification will be accepted. Laptops are available on a “first come, first served” basis.

Blackboard Courses From 2019 or Earlier Will Be Removed Beginning Oct. 12

Beginning October 12, access to Blackboard courses created in 2019 or earlier will no longer be available. This means that any courses, materials and content associated with these older courses will be archived and no longer accessible through the Blackboard platform. 

For faculty, this change means that you must ensure that any course materials and resources you plan to use in the future are located in your current Blackboard courses or saved to a local drive. NOTE: This process will not impact course templates -- only previously completed course sections with actual student enrollments.

LU College of Graduate Studies Calls for Entries for 2nd Annual Graduate Research Conference

Entries accepted through Submit your abstract for research papers and posters as noted in the Current Events on the College of Graduate Studies webpage. Acceptance is competitive, with several regional universities also attending. The conference will be held here at 四虎影视 on March 28 and 29, 2024.

The application deadline for the 2024 David J. Beck Fellowship has been extended. Students who are interested in summer research are encouraged to apply for this prestigious award and scholarship.

Call for Proposals for Undergraduate Research

Deadline: Wednesday, Nov. 15, 11:59 p.m.

The Office of Undergraduate Research is seeking proposals from undergraduate students in all areas of discipline at 四虎影视. Recipients will receive up to $2,000 in research funds and the opportunity to present their research at EXPO 2024. Submissions will be accepted until November 15.

Composition Awards
LU Writing Center Hosts First Ever WAC Composition Awards

Deadline: Wednesday, Nov. 15, 5:00 p.m.

Faculty members who teach first-year writing classes are encouraged to nominate one deserving student by Nov. 15 for a first-of-its-kind Compy Award. Winners in six interdisciplinary categories will receive $50 and the honor of being a recognized writer on campus. See site for details on how to enter.

Center for Resiliency Launches New SmartStorm Initiative

The LU Center for Resiliency has launched a new distance learning portal, , that will provide useful and critical information for preparing for and coping with the effects of hurricanes, floods and damaging weather. Three courses will be available with certificates and a disaster preparedness backpack, while supplies last.

Pulse Magazine
Submit to Pulse, LU's Student Literary Magazine

Deadline: Friday, Dec. 15, 12:00 a.m.

Submissions will be open from October 15 to December 15 for Pulse magazine. Submission categories include: poetry, short fiction, scholarly essays, creative nonfiction, poetry in translation, and art. Submissions are open to all students, regardless of major. $100 prizes will be given for each category. A publication release party and reading event will be held in May of 2024.

Have something to share?  (e.g., events, publications, faculty research, awards, departmental congratulations, grants, etc.) and the Office of Marketing Communications will get the word out through emails, web, social media and more. 

All approved announcements must be received by Thursday at 3 p.m. to be included in the following week's campus update.
