Asian View
KVLU Launches Asian News Feature

Date: Monday, Oct. 2, 1:00 p.m.
Location: 91.3 KVLU Public Radio (virtual)

KVLU will host Asian View, a five-minute news feature each weekday at 1 p.m., beginning Monday, Oct. 2. From NHK World-Japan Radio, Asian View features the latest geopolitical, business and cultural news from Japan and the rest of Asia. Listen on 91.3 FM or online at kvlu.org.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Liaison Program Information Session

Date: Monday, Oct. 2, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. or Wednesday, Oct. 11, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Location: LU Science & Technology Building, Room 103, and via Zoom

Conduct research and travel during the Summer of 2024. Join the Office of Undergraduate Research for an information session(s) on 四虎影视's new REU liaison program. This competitive program, funded by the National Science Foundation, welcomes undergraduates from all academic areas. Contact Jenna Erwin at (409) 880-3430 for more information.

LUPD Presents: Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) Training

Date: Tuesday, Oct. 3, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Location: Setzer Student Center Ballroom

The LUPD Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004, provides strategies, guidance, and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. The event is open to all 四虎影视 students, faculty and staff members.

Flu Fighter
Join the Student Health Center to be a Flu Fighter

Date: Wednesday, Oct. 4, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Location: LU Student Health Center

Cooler weather is coming, so it is time to get the flu shot. The LU Student Health Center is offering flu vaccines this Wednesday, October 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost can be charged to your LU account. Faculty/Staff will be $30. Students will be $28. Students may qualify for a free vaccine.

Stuttering Association
National Stuttering Association Beaumont/Lamar Chapter Meeting

Date: Thursday, Oct. 5, 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

If you stutter, you're not alone. It’s estimated that 1% of adults stutter which would equal 160 Lamar faculty, students and staff sharing the common experience of stuttering. Come join us for our next meeting, either in person or via Zoom, on Thursday, October 5. The National Stuttering Association at Lamar plays a vital role in letting people who stutter know that they are not alone.

Manufacturing Day
Manufacturing Day hosted by Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center

Date: Friday, Oct. 6, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Each year, Manufacturing Day is held in order to show students, parents, and the public what modern manufacturing is all about. 四虎影视, along with the Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center (TMAC) will host its first ever Manufacturing Day this year on Friday, October 6.

World Mental Health Day
World Mental Health Day Event

Date: Tuesday, Oct. 10, 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.
Location: Setzer Student Center, Live Oak Ballroom B

The LU Office of Strategic Initiatives will host a World Mental Health Day on Tuesday, Oct. 10, with the purpose to improve knowledge, raise awareness and drive actions that promote and protect everyone’s mental health. The 2023 theme is “Our Minds, Our Rights." There will be information, resources, food, and chair massages for attendees.

Employee Assistance Program Event- Effective Communication with Employees and Teams

Date: Friday, Oct. 13, 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Location: Setzer Student Center, Ballroom A

Research Operation Training for Undergraduate Research Grant

The LU Office of Undergraduate Research invites students interested in applying for the Undergraduate Research Grant (URG) to a research operations training on Wednesday, October 11. Students will learn about compliance, purchasing, lab safety, and many other resources that will enrich their research experience.

Reaud Honors College to Host Honors Scholars Day

Join us for Honors Scholars Day, and come explore what our honors students have created during their time at LU. Refreshments will be provided, and drop-ins are encouraged. Booths and panel presentations will be set up for attendees.

Cardinal Connect Laptop Loaner Program Available to Students
Cardinal Connect Laptop Loaner Program

Location: Mary and John Gray Library, 1st Floor

四虎影视 provides loaner laptops to LU students as a courtesy and at no charge. Laptops are available for both short-term checkouts (up to three days) and long-term checkouts (up to eight weeks). You must be a current student at LU to be eligible for this program.

For more information, visit the Information Technology (I.T.) Service Desk on the 1st floor of the Mary and John Gray Library. You will need to present your LU Student Cardinal One card. No other forms of identification will be accepted. Laptops are available on a “first come, first served” basis.

Blackboard Courses From 2019 or Earlier Will Be Removed Beginning Oct. 12

Beginning October 12, access to Blackboard courses created in 2019 or earlier will no longer be available. This means that any courses, materials and content associated with these older courses will be archived and no longer accessible through the Blackboard platform. 

For faculty, this change means that you must ensure that any course materials and resources you plan to use in the future are located in your current Blackboard courses or saved to a local drive. NOTE: This process will not impact course templates -- only previously completed course sections with actual student enrollments.

McNairs Scholars
Applications Open for McNair Scholars Program

Deadline: Wednesday, Nov. 1, 5:00 p.m.

The LU McNair Scholars program is now accepting applications for the 2024 Cohort. The program offers students opportunities to work with a faculty mentor, conduct research, publish or present their findings, and gain assistance in applying to graduate school. See our website for more information.

LU College of Graduate Studies Calls for Entries for 2nd Annual Graduate Research Conference

Deadline: Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 11:59 p.m.

Entries accepted through Submit your abstract for research papers and posters as noted in the Current Events on the College of Graduate Studies webpage. Acceptance is competitive, with several regional universities also attending. The conference will be held here at 四虎影视 on March 28 and 29, 2024.
