Admissions Criteria

Undergraduate

  • B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies

Graduate

  • Alternative Certification & M.A. Teaching
  • M.Ed. in Educational Administration or M.Ed. Educational Technology Leadership w/ Principal Certification
    • and/or Principal Certificate Only
  • M.Ed. in Counseling & Development w/ Professional School Counselor Certification
  • M.Ed. in Literacy w/Reading Specialist Certification
  • M.Ed. Special Education w/ Educational Diagnostician Certification
    • and/or Educational Diagnostician Certificate Only
  • Superintendent Certificate

B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies EC-6, 4-8

  • Completion of an EPP admission application
  • Successful completion of 30 semester hours
  • Completion of PEDG 2310
  • Successful completion of ENGL 1301 and ENGL 1302 with a “C” or better
  • Successful completion of two math courses required by your certification program with a grade of “C” or better
  • A minimum overall GPA and in the certificate field of 2.75 with no grade lower than “C” in the certificate field(s)
  • Texas Success Initiative complete

Once admitted to the program, you must maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA and attempt each Lamar Proficiency Exam during method courses. You must also issue proof of registration in each state-required exam for your concentration. You will not be admitted to clinical teaching without successful completion of each required preparation exam.

Secondary and EC-12 Concentrations

For students that are secondary education and all level programs, the following applies:

For the concentrations listed below, the following courses are required prior to EPP admission consideration:

  • Chemistry (7-12): Math 1314 and English 1301 required
  • English (7-12): Math 1332 and English 1301 required
  • History (7-12): Math 1332 and English 1301
  • Life Science (7-12): Math 1314, 1316 or 2312 and English 1301 required
  • Math (7-12): English 1301 required/algebra not required
  • EC-12 Art: Math 1314 or above and English 1301 required
  • EC-12 ASL: Math 1314, English 1301 and 1302 required
  • EC-12 Health: Math 1342 or 1314/English 1301 and English 1302 required
  • EC-12 Music: Math 1314 or above and English 1301 required
  • EC-12 Spanish or French: Math 1332 and English 1301 required

Before applying to the program, you must earn the credit hours for the subject you would like to teach.

  • Twelve semester hours for the subject concentration
  • Fifteen semester hours for certification in mathematics or science

Transfer Students

If you are a transfer student and took PEDG 2310 at another institution other than 四虎影视, you will need to apply to the educator preparation program prior to being admitted into the program.

      • During a transcript review for students entering the ACP/MAT program to obtain initial teaching certification for the state of Texas, a minimum number of undergraduate school credit hours (SCH) in content for certification area is required.   • Teaching Certificate: Valid teaching certificate. This does not include a probationary or permit issued certificate.
  • Teaching Experience: Two years teaching experience. Applicants seeking certification in Texas should request a service record with an authorized signature from their HR office.
  • Employment: Applicants seeking certification in Texas must have access to a TEA-approved public or private school campus and site supervisor to conduct practicum/internship activities.However, applicants are not required to be currently employed at a TEA-approved campus. M.Ed. Counseling & Development - Professional School Counseling

Superintendent Certificate

  • Conferred bachelor's degree GPA of 2.5 or a conferred master’s degree with a 3.0 GPA 
  • Acceptance by the University into Graduate Studies
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

  • Reference: Reference from a principal who has supervised you.
  • Teaching Certificate: Valid teaching certificate. This does not include a probationary or permit issued certificate.
  • Teaching Experience: Two years teaching experience. Applicants seeking certification in Texas should request a service record with an authorized signature from their HR office.
Candidates may enroll in The Preparation Program for Superintendent Certification if they:
  • Hold a Principal (or Mid-Management) Certification or alternatively:
    • Have served in a leadership role in education, business or community organization leadership for a period of one or more years
  • Have served in any alternative service or experience which is deemed by the Lamar Superintendent Faculty to be equivalent to the requirements listed above
  • Any appeal for a waiver of certification requirements, which requires consideration by the Lamar Superintendent faculty, shall be subject to the judgement of the faculty. All faculty rulings are final.
